The starter control, integrated in the ME control unit (N3/10) takes over The actuation of the starter (M1) and the deactivation of the starter after reaching the engine starting speed.

Start prerequisites

The actuation of the starter is performed only during "start enable" (drive authorization) of the EIS control unit and when detecting the engaged drive position "P" or "N" via the ETC [EGS] control unit N73(N15/3).

Start

By moving the ignition start switch into the start position, the ME control unit receives the "circuit 50 signal via the CAN databus from the EIS control unit. Start control is automatic from the ME control unit (touch start). The ME control unit actuates the starter relay (K40/7kL, N10/1kS) via a ground signal. The starter replay power contact closes and the starter solenoid switch is supplied with voltage at "circuit 50" from "circuit 15 unfused".

Start end

When an engine start speed from 400 to 700/rpm is obtained and a start time of around 5 to 40 seconds (depending on the coolant temperature), the ME control unit interrupts negative activation to the starter relay and thus ends the start procedure.

IMPORTANT Once the start operation is initiated, switching off "Terminal 50" (ignition/starter switch) has no further influence on the starting procedure.
