CHECK ENGINE CONTROL MODULE SOFTWARE AND UPDATE AS REQUIRED

THIS SERVICE CAMPAIGN AFFECTS DEALER INVENTORY ONLY .

AFFECTED VEHICLES MUST BE REPAIRED PRIOR TO RETAIL SALE .

This Service Campaign has been initiated because DCAG has determined that on affected vehicles the software for the engine control module may need to be updated regarding fuel type for Flex Fuel Vehicles. Vehicles without the engine control module software update that are filled only with E85 fuel may experience starting problems, rough vehicle operation and MIL illumination. Dealers will update the engine control module software as required.

Prior to performing this Service Campaign:

Please check VMI to determine if the vehicle is involved in the Campaign and if it has been previously repaired.
Please review the entire Service Campaign bulletin and follow the procedure steps exactly as described.

Please note that Recall and Service Campaigns do not expire and may also be performed on a vehicle with a vehicle status indicator.

Approximately 6,428 vehicles are affected.

PROCEDURE

Note - Prior to starting the procedure ensure to:

Use DAS version 01/2007 with AddOn 0673 or higher with all associated patches
Follow the steps exactly as described in DAS
Connect battery charger

Connect Star Diagnosis.
Check engine control module software.
- Follow the DAS path "Control unit adaptations/ Control unit programming" and on-screen instructions.
NOTE: In rare cases DAS may not recognize the engine control module software. If the window shown in Fig 1 opens, choose "Ethanol fuel engine: FITTED" and select 'F2'.

Perform one of the following:
- If newer software is available: Install software, then proceed to step 4.
- If newer software is not available: Disconnect Star Diagnosis; this campaign has been completed.
Perform SCN/CVN coding of control module.
- Follow the DAS path "Control unit adaptations/Variant coding/SCN coding" and on-screen instructions.
Read out and erase fault memory.
Disconnect Star Diagnosis.

The following allowable labor operation should be used when submitting a warranty claim for this repair:
