Driver-side/front passenger side frontal acceleration sensor, task - GF91.60-P-4020-02PM
The driver-side frontal acceleration sensor (B48/1) and passenger-side frontal acceleration sensor (B48/2) determine the acceleration values in the area of the front section at the left and right. They backup the triggering behavior of the restraint systems control unit (N2/7) in the event of a frontal crash. They serve to better differentiate between an accident with airbag deployment and one in which the airbag need not be deployed.
The restraint systems control unit (N2/7) can also trigger a deployment without signals from the driver-side frontal acceleration sensor (B48/1) or the passenger-side frontal acceleration sensor (B48/2)! In the event of a malfunction to the driver-side frontal acceleration sensor (B48/1) the passenger-side frontal acceleration sensor (B48/2) signal continues to be evaluated. This also applies vice versa!
