Activating the illumination

The instrument cluster illumination is switched on when the instrument cluster is activated.

The intensity of the lighting is dependent on:

Controlling the display lighting

Upon the CAN message "Standing lamps ON", the current position of the instrument illumination brightness control and reset button is transmitted via the Controller Area Network bus class B (interior) (CAN-B) to the control units on the CAN-B.

The signal from the rain/light sensor is not taken into account here.

Controlling display lighting by means of sensor

The CAN message "Standing lamps OFF" sets the circuit status "Circuit 58d OFF" to 0%. Because of this, the CAN-B message from the rain/light sensor via the overhead control panel control unit is processed as a control variable and converted. In the event of a fault in the rain/light sensor, the overhead control panel control unit sets "circuit 58d ON" to 100%.

The display brightness can only be adjusted via the instrument illumination brightness control and reset button when the instrument cluster illumination is switched on.

Set switch and controls illumination

The switch and controls illumination is activated by the following components:

When the standing lamps are on, the position of the instrument illumination brightness control and reset button is used as a controlled variable by the overhead control panel control unit; the rain/light sensor is disregarded. When automatic driving lights are on, the brightness of the switch and controls illumination is determined via the rain/light sensor. Its signals are evaluated by the overhead control panel control unit and relayed via the CAN-B. All the control units that require the signal from the rain/light sensor take the signal from the CAN-B.
