Acoustic warning function
The acoustic turn signal indicator (A1h2) is integrated within the instrument cluster (A1). It is a type of contact less relay. The turn signal flasher is always accompanied by an acoustic clicking sound generated in the same rhythm. The acoustic turn signal/flasher (A1h2) function varies according to the type of signal.
Turn signals
The trigger signal for the acoustic turn signal function (A1h2) arrives through the interior compartment CAN after originating at the steering column module (N80). If one of the turn signals fails, the acoustic turn signal indicator (A1h2) operates at twice the usual frequency.
The instrument cluster (A1) receives the turn signal lamp fault information from the control unit that triggers the faulty turn signal lamp via the interior compartment CAN.
Hazard warning flashers
The trigger signal for the acoustic turn signal indicator (A1h2) function arrives via the interior compartment CAN after originating in the control unit for the upper user-control panel (N72/1).
ELECTRONIC ALARM SYSTEM flashers
The signal to activate the acoustic turn signal indicator (A1h2) comes from the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module, driver (N10/1) via the interior compartment CAN.
Warning signal
The instrument cluster (A1) has the warning buzzer (A1h1) which for various faults and operating conditions sounds for approx. 0.2 seconds at a frequency of approx. 2048 Hz.
An acoustic warning is given
- with malfunction and warning messages with medium and top priority (in addition to the message that appears in the multifunction display (A1p13).
- when the seat belt warning lamp (A1e9) lights up.
This indicator lamp is not provided in all national markets. The signal to actuate comes from the restraint systems control unit (N2/7) via the interior compartment CAN.
- The brake fluid level and parking brake warning lamp (A1e7) light up if the vehicle starts to move before the parking brake is released. The signal to activate this lamp comes from the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module, driver (N10/1) via the interior compartment CAN.
- When the DTR warning lamp (A1e59) lights up. This lamp is triggered when the distance to the preceding vehicle falls below the defined safety margin. The trigger signal is transmitted through the engine compartment CAN after originating with the DTR control unit (N63/1).
- When the transmitter key (A8/1) is in the EIS [EZS] control unit (N73) with "circuit 15c" and the driver door is opened. The CAN messages "ignition key status information" and "ignition OFF" are present (over the interior compartment CAN from the EIS control unit (N73)) and the door contact signal from the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2) is transmitted.
- When the standing lamps are on, the ignition key (A8/1) is withdrawn and the driver door is open (lights warning). The "ignition key status information" comes over the interior compartment CAN from the EIS control unit (N73) and the door contact signal from the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2) and the standing lamps signal from the driver-side SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) are present.
- When vehicle speed exceeds 120 kph (Gulf states only). The warning tone is muted as soon as the speed drops below 117 km/h.
When the speed set on the variable speed limiter is exceeded, e.g. due to inertial acceleration.
The displayed speed is used. The specified maximum speed comes from the CDI control unit (N3/9) or the ME control unit (N3/10) via the engine compartment CAN.
