Function
Driving safety is no longer guaranteed if there is a rapid pressure loss. The driver is advised to stop and check the condition of the tires immediately. The driver is responsible for deciding whether to continue driving at low speed to the next specialist workshop or whether a repair (fitting the spare wheel or using TIREFIT) is necessary on site.
If the TPM [RDK] control unit (N88) detects that a rapid (pressure loss > 0.2 bar/minute) occurs at one wheel, a "hard warning" ("red" display) follows.
The "hard warning" is only displayed in the same ignition sequence. A "soft warning" is displayed in the next ignition sequence.
If the system is not reactivated, the "soft warning" is repeated for approx. 30 seconds each time the engine is started and then goes out again.
As of 1.6.04 in parallel with the "hard warning" the tire pressure monitor warning lamp (A1e66) in the instrument cluster (A1) is actuated. It only goes out after the system is reactivated.
