Key-P, general
The designation Key-P comprises all the functions which in addition to the parking brake serve to secure the vehicle to prevent it from rolling away unintentionally.
Key-P function sequence
The function sequence is subdivided into the following steps:
- Park pawl
- Locking ignition switch
- Locking of selector lever position "P"
Park pawl
The park pawl only allows the transmission to be shifted out of selector lever position "P" by the electronic selector lever module control unit, when the transmitter key is turned to the "Circuit 15 ON" position and the brake pedal is pressed.
To ensure that after the vehicle has been parked, the selector lever is in the selector lever position "P" or that it can be moved to this position, the transmitter key can only be turned to "0" in this direction and removed from the EZS control unit. The vehicle is secured mechanically by blocking the park pawl gear in the transmission.
In the event of mechanical or electrical fault, selector lever position "P" can be released manually.
Locking ignition switch
The EIS [EZS] control unit locks the transmitter key mechanically at a vehicle speed of >8 km/h.
This prevents the transmitter key from being removed.
Locking of selector lever position "P"
The selector lever remains locked in position "P" if the following conditions are not met:
- No enable signal from the drive authorization system (DAS 3)
- Brake pedal not actuated
