Location

The engine start/stop switch is located in the instrument panel on the right next to the steering wheel.

Task

The engine start/stop switch activates or deactivates the engine start/stop system (MSS). Actuation of the engine start/stop switch in the upper section activates the MSS system if the engine runs and subsequent the minimum speed of 2 km/h is exceeded. The MSS system is deactivated through actuation of the engine start/stop switch.

IMPORTANT If the status of circuit 15 changes from "ON" to "OFF", the activate MSS system is also deactivated.

IMPORTANT In order to reactivate the MSS system again after switching off the MSS system by switching off the ignition (status "circuit 15 OFF"), the engine start/stop switch must first be actuated in the lower section and then subsequently actuated in the higher section.

Design

The engine start/stop switch consists of a housing, 2 command button areas (sections), an integral light emitting diode (LED), a switching contact and a plug connector.

Function

The engine start/stop switch is read in for vehicles with OM 642 via a discrete line by the CDI control unit (N3/20).

The engine start/stop switch is read in for vehicles with OM 646 via a discrete line by the CDI control unit (N3/21).

If there is a voltage applied to the engine start/stop switch by circuit 58d, the integral LED lights up in the engine start/stop switch and thus simplifies finding of the engine start/stop switch in the dark (switch and controls illumination).

IMPORTANT Actuation of the engine start/stop switch can only be read in by the respective CDI control unit if one of the following switches reports the status "Engine hood closed":
