TRANSMISSION 722.6/9 in MODEL 906.111/113/131/133/135/153/155/211/213/231/233/235/253/255/611/613/631/633/635/637/653/655/657/711/713/731/733/735
Location
The ESM control unit is located in the dashboard.
Task
The ESM control unit is the central control for influencing the automatic transmission by the driver. Selector lever positions "P", "R", "N" and "D" are transmitted mechanically to the automatic transmission via a Bowden cable. Parallel to this the selector lever position is recorded in the ESM control unit and forwarded to the engine compartment-CAN (CAN C). The following selector lever positions are possible
- "P" Park lock and start position
- "R" Reverse gear
- "N" N Neutral position and starting position; no power flow takes place, the vehicle can move freely
- "D" All 5 forward gears (with transmission 722.6) or 7 forward gears (with transmission 722.9) are available
- "+/-" Shift operations are only performed up to the gear displayed
Design
Selector lever positions "P", "R", "N" and "D" are transmitted mechanically to the automatic transmission via a Bowden cable. At the same time the selector lever position is recorded in the ESM control unit by means of Hall sensors. The reversing and parking lock locking solenoid is integrated into the ESM control unit (Y66/1). Selector lever position "P" can be unlocked to tow the vehicle. The release pin is located under the selector lever cover (with transmission 722.6). For vehicles with transmission 722.9 the selector lever position "P" is release by sliding a pin into a bore under a cover at the front of the ESM control unit cover.
If an internal fault is present, the complete ESM control unit should be replaced. Separate parts cannot be repaired or replaced.
