CAUSE / EXPLANATION
Spread female pins at the CDI can cause repeat visits and intermittent failures. The manufactured leads in the electrical test kit are NOT to be used to test the female pins at the engine control module connectors as none are an exact fit.
NOTE:
Please pass this on to ALL Technicians!!!!!!!!!!
CORRECTION
- Utilize the correct test harness and socket box for electrical testing when possible.
- Fabricate test leads using part # A 048 545 03 28 (MLK1.2) and your own wires and label them (CDI or Engine). Utilize these shop made leads for checking pin tension and performing electrical testing of the female pins at the CDI connectors.
- Some newer models are being found to have spread pins. Please document these cases via PTSS and document which connector / pin terminal # are spread.
- If the female pin(s) are found to be spread replacement is recommended. Replace pins with appropriate MCP 1.2 pin based on wire size.
