Shift Lock Function - GF27.10-D-2008HAG
TRANSMISSION 722.9 in MODEL 906
Function requirements
- Circuit 15 ON
- Brake pedal operated
- Vehicle speed > 8 km/h
General
The term shift lock combines the functions which, in addition to the parking brake, offer an additional safeguard for the vehicle to prevent it moving off unintentionally.
Function sequence
The function sequence is described in the following steps:
- Park pawl function sequence
- Ignition-lock lock function sequence
- Function sequence for selector lever position "P" lock
- Function sequence for shift lock override (manual unlocking of selector lever position "P")
The vehicle is secured mechanically by locking the transmission with the park pawl gear. Selector lever position "P" can be released manually (shift lock override) in the event of mechanical or electrical faults.
Park pawl function sequence
The park pawl only permits shifting out of selector lever position "P" if the status "circuit 15 ON" has been enabled via the transmitter key (A8/1) and the brake pedal is depressed.
In order to ensure that after parking the vehicle the selector lever is shifted into selector lever position "P", the transmitter key can only be removed from the EIS control unit (N73) when in this position.
Ignition-lock lock function sequence
The mechanical components of the ignition lock prevent the removal of the transmitter key when selector lever position "P" is not engaged and with "circuit 15 ON" and a vehicle speed > 8 km/h.
Function sequence for selector lever position "P" lock
The selector lever remains locked in position "P" if the following conditions are not met:
- No power supply from ESM control unit (N15/5)
- No enable signal from drive authorization system stage 3 (DAS 3)
- Brake pedal not actuated
When a valid drive authorization code is received from the EZS control unit and a brake recognized by the ESP control unit (N30/4) the ESM control unit then actuates the locking solenoid for selector lever positions R and P (Y66/1).
The selector lever positions R and P locking solenoid releases the selector lever and thus permits a shift out of selector lever position "P".
Function sequence for shift lock override (manual unlocking of selector lever position "P")
Should it not be possible to engage a gear range from selector lever position "P" for reason of mechanical or electrical faults, the lock of selector lever position "P" can be released manually. To do so the front cap under the selector lever in the cover must be unclipped. Slide a suitable tool (pin) up to the end stop in the opening while shifting the selector lever out of the "P" position at the same time.
