Function requirements, general

IMPORTANT Power down: If circuit 15 is switched off, the electric pop-out windows can still be operated for t = 5 minutes. If, during the run-on time, the circuits status or the door status is changed, the run-on time starts again.

The electronic ignition lock control unit sends the circuit 15 status over the interior CAN to the rear control unit.

Electric pop-out windows in general

The pop-out windows between the vehicle's C and D-pillars can be electrically opened and closed.

IMPORTANT Convenience features are available for opening or closing the pop-out windows by opening or closing them from a central control point. The function is described in detail in the separate "Function description for theft protection and locking" in the partial function Convenience feature.

The electric pop-out windows are operated using the pop-out window switch. To perform a manual function, the pop-out window switch has to be pressed and held. To start an automatic function it is sufficient to momentarily actuate beyond the catch point. Actuation lasts as long (maximum t = 5 s) as the corresponding request is made.

IMPORTANT The priority of possible functions depends on their requirement. A command with higher priority is performed if a function with lower priority is currently active. A lower priority function is interrupted first and is accomplished only after the second valid request. If a command with lower priority is still present after completion of an operation request with higher priority, the former command is ignored. It is first necessary for the controls to recognize non-actuation of the lower priority request before the corresponding function can be activated.

Priority sequence:

  1. Vent window switch
  2. Actuation via diagnostic tester
  3. Comfort opening/closing via central locking
  4. Convenience opening/closing via recirculated air function

The electric pop-out window function comprises the following subfunctions:

Function sequence for manual opening and closing

The pop-out window switch must be pressed and held at the catch point or beyond in the "Open" or "Close" direction. Actuation lasts as long (maximum t = 5 s) as the corresponding request is made.

The left front door control unit reads in the status of the pop-out window switch directly. The left front door control unit sends a corresponding request over the interior CAN to the rear control unit, which then directly actuates the left pop-out window motor and the right pop-out window motor simultaneously.

IMPORTANT The automatic reversing function is inactive when the pop-out windows are being manually closed.

Function sequence for automatic opening and closing

The corresponding pop-out window switch must be actuated just beyond the catch point in the "Open" or "Close" direction, and then released.

IMPORTANT The remaining function sequence corresponds to that of manual opening and closing.

IMPORTANT Actuation of the pop-out window motors is automatically ended after expiration of the actuation time of t = 5 s stored in the rear control unit. The automatic reversing function is active during automatic raising.

Automatic opening can be interrupted by pressing the pop-out window switch towards "Open". If the pop-out window switch is pressed again in the "Open" direction, the pop-out window motors are actuated again accordingly.

Automatic closing is not interrupted by pressing the pop-out window switch towards "Close".

Function sequence for automatic reserving function

Pinching is detected by the anti-pinch protection contact strips integrated in the window seals.

The status of the anti-pinch protection contact strips is read in directly by the rear control unit. When pinching is detected, the respective pop-out window is automatically reversed with the actuation time of t = 5 s stored in the rear control unit.

IMPORTANT If the rear control unit detects a defective anti-pinch protection contact strip, the pop-out windows can only be closed manually.
