Update Transmission and Engine Control Module Software

This Service Campaign has been initiated because Daimler AG (DAG), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, has determined that the software in the Engine and Transmission Control Modules may not meet current production configuration. To correct this condition an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer will update the Engine and Transmission Control Module software at the next dealer visit.

Prior to performing this Service Campaign:

Please check VMI to determine if the vehicle is involved in the Campaign and if it has been previously repaired.
Please review the entire Service Campaign bulletin and follow the repair procedure exactly as described.

Approximately 2,411 vehicles are affected.

PROCEDURE

NOTE:

Use DAS/Xentry 12/2014-01-02/2015 with all associated patches or higher.
Follow the steps exactly as described in DAS/Xentry.
Connect battery charger (battery voltage >12.5V).
Ensure all electrical consumers are switched-off.
In the event of software/SCN update issues, contact Star Diagnosis User Help Desk. Please refer to the "pre-call" check list before contacting UHD
Refer to Star Diagnosis System (SDS) Best Practices Guide.

Update software for fully integrated transmission control module:
Control units view / Drive Type / VGS-transmission control / Adaptations / Control unit programming then follow on-screen instructions.
Update software for engine control module:
Control unit view / Drive type / ME-SFI motor electronics / Adaptations / Control unit programming then follow on-screen instructions.
Carry out transmission adaptation.
NOTE: The following allowable labor operation should be used when submitting a warranty claim for this repair:

Connect/disconnect battery charger (02-5058)
Star Diagnosis System (SDS), Connect/disconnect (02-4762)
Update software for fully integrated transmission control unit and engine control unit (02-8820)
Perform transmission adaptation test drive (02-8851).
