Update Engine Control Module Software

This Service Campaign has been initiated because Daimler AG (DAG), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, has determined that the software in the engine control module does not meet specifications. Due to a communication error between ESP control unit and engine control unit, no fast torque control is possible. Furthermore, the ECO start/stop function is set to passive. In addition, pulsation complaints may occur at the oil pump. To correct his condition dealers will update the engine control module software at the next dealer visit.

Prior to performing this Service Campaign:

Please check VMI to determine if the vehicle is involved in the Campaign and if it has been previously repaired.
Please review the entire Service Campaign bulletin and follow the repair procedure exactly as described.

PROCEDURE

NOTE:

Use DAS/Xentry 09-10-11/14 with add-on 4049 or higher.
Follow the steps exactly as described in Xentry.
Connect battery charger (battery voltage >12.5V).
Ensure all electrical consumers are switched-off.

Refer to Star Diagnosis System (SDS) Best Practices Guide.

Update software for engine control module:
Control unit view/Drive type/ME motor electronics/Adaptations/Control unit programming.
Follow on-screen instructions.
NOTE: Please verify ME software number change after performing the software update.
