	Remove/install
1	Detach ground line from battery		AR54.10-P-0003LF
2	Remove center and rear engine compartment paneling		AR61.20-P-1105LF
3	Remove steering coupling	Model 217 with engine 157, 278 with code M005 (4MATIC) Model 222 as of 4/30/14 with engine 157, 278 with code M005 (4MATIC)	AR46.10-P-8000LW
		Model 222 up to 4/29/14 with engine 157, 278 with code M005 (4MATIC)	AR46.10-P-8000RK
4	Detach alternator cable set at A/T
5	Remove heat shield over starter (M1)
6	Detach contact protection (3) and detach electrical line circuit 30 at starter (M1)	Nut, connection for terminal designation 30	*BA15.30-P-1001-01J
7	Detach electrical line of circuit 50 (4) at starter (M1)	Nut, connection for terminal designation 50	*BA15.30-P-1002-01J
8	Unclip crankcase electrical line (2) from bracket
9	Remove screw/bolts (5) of starter (M1)	Bolt, starter to crankcase	*BA15.30-P-1003-01J
10	Remove starter (M1) from below
	Check
11	Check ring gear at the drive plate for wear and damage	When replacing the starter (M1). Rotate engine at center Bolt, crankshaft in the direction of engine rotation. Socket wrench bit Ring gear on clutch plate worn or damaged. ↓	Fig 2
		Replace drive plate.	AR03.30-P-8001LFB
12	Install in the reverse order
