Location

The left rear radar sensor is mounted on the left inner side of the rear bumper, while the right rear radar sensor is mounted on the right inner side of the rear bumper.

Task

The rear bumper radar sensors detect vehicles in the blind spot over the integrated vehicles radar sensor system.

The rear bumper radar sensors are ultra wideband radar sensor with the following properties:

IMPORTANT The rear bumper radar sensors operate according to the "master-slave" principle. The master or slave function can be determined via the connector coding. The master function is defined for the right rear bumper radar sensor. That means that the left rear bumper radar sensor sends its requests to output warning and readiness messages via chassis CAN 1 (CAN-E1) to the right rear bumper radar sensor, which then evaluates the information from both rear bumper radar sensors and forwards corresponding requests via chassis CAN 1 to the relevant control units. Coding (differentiation) of the rear bumper radar sensors is performed by means of different assignment with circuit 31 to pin 5 or 6.

The rear bumper radar sensors also fulfill the following tasks:

Reading in of sensors and signals

The following input factors are read in over the chassis CAN 1 and contain the following information:

The functions that use these signals are described in the individual function descriptions (see appropriate block diagram or function schematic).

Evaluation of input factors

The input factors are evaluated by the integrated microprocessors and the relevant components are then actuated.

Output of signals

Output of signals takes place over the chassis CAN 1.

The right rear bumper radar sensor transmits the following signals via the chassis CAN 1:

The left rear bumper radar sensor sends detection data via chassis CAN 1 to the right rear bumper radar sensor, which uses it to generate the requests to output a warning.
