General
The injection valves inject the fuel into the intake manifold under low pressure (intake manifold injection).
The respective injected fuel quantity depends on the actuation duration of the corresponding injection valve.
The injection quantity is determined by additional factors:
- Opening and closing speed of nozzle needle.
- Needle lift height.
- Nozzle geometry.
- Pressure in fuel distributor.
Function
When the solenoid coil is energized, the nozzle needle is raised approximately 0.1 mm via the solenoid armature against the force of the coil spring. The fuel exits through the outlet hole and is injected into the intake manifold in finely atomized form upstream of the intake valves.
The voltage to the injection valves is supplied from circuit 87M. Actuation takes place by means of electrical ground impulses of appropriate length from the ME-SFI [ME] or engine management control unit.
The injection valves are actuated sequentially by the appropriate control unit, i.e. each cylinder is assigned an injection valve that supplies the fuel quantity calculated for that cylinder.
If misfires are detected, actuation to the corresponding cylinder can be interrupted.
