IMPORTANT The DC/DC converter control unit, the starter-alternator control unit as well as the 48 V on-board electrical system battery and the integrated starter alternator component parts are additionally installed for the 48 V on-board electrical system. The DC/DC converter control unit connects the 12 V on-board electrical system to the 48 V on-board electrical system, and enables energy exchange in both directions.

Gasoline injection and ignition system with DI, general

In the electrical network with the sensors and actuators of engine 256 DI (Direct Injection), the gasoline injection and ignition system with direct injection forms the engine management system "MRG1".

The whole engine management is contained in the ME-SFI control unit. Sensor data are read in directly by the engine management and indirectly via the CAN network and the respective actuators are actuated. Here the individual functions and systems of the engine management are controlled and coordinated by the ME-SFI control unit.

The engine management is subdivided into the following systems:

Basic functions

IMPORTANTDiagnosis:

For diagnostic purposes, the fault codes of the engine management system can be read out and deleted and individual diagnostic functions can be specifically actuated.

IMPORTANTCAN network:

The ME-SFI [ME] control unit exchanges data with other control units that are integrated in the CAN network via the connected drive train CAN and engine CAN. The ME-SFI [ME] control unit also acts as an interface (Gateway) between the two CAN bus systems.

IMPORTANTControl unit programming:

The engine management in the ME-SFI [ME] control unit is programmable, i.e. the software of the control unit can be exchanged (replaced). The software required for control unit programming can be found on the diagnosis system software DVD.

IMPORTANTTransport mode:

In transport mode various functions of the engine management are limited. If the kilometer reading of the vehicle is more than 250 km, the "Transport mode" system status is deactivated automatically and cannot be reactivated again.

IMPORTANTVariant coding:

The vehicle model, national version, exhaust gas variant, transmission version can, for example, be coded with the variant coding.

Fuel injection system

Ignition system

Exhaust system

IMPORTANTExhaust flap

In order to optimize the exhaust noise behavior of the exhaust system electrically actuated exhaust flaps are installed in the middle element and on the exhaust tailpipes of the rear muffler.

These are actuated in a load-dependent manner by the exhaust gas flap actuator motors. The powertrain control unit actuates the exhaust gas flap actuator motors in a continuously variable manner.
