Model 213
up to model year 2021
with code 23P (Drive package)
Model 213
up to model year 2021
with code P20 (Driving assistant package Plus)
Location
The front near and long-range radar sensor is located in the center, in front of the radiator.
Task
The near and long-range radar sensor has the following tasks:
- Actuation, power supply and evaluation of target data from the integral long range radar
- Transmission of object data for longitudinal directional vehicle control to the Intelligent Drive control unit (N62/4)
- Transmission of object data for longitudinal directional vehicle control to the Intelligent Drive control unit
- Transmission of object data to the Intelligent Drive control unit for plausibility checking of the object data from the MFK stereo (A40/13)
- Transmission of object data for collision-avoiding intervention by the brake system to the Intelligent Drive control unit
The control electronics integrated in the near and long-range radar sensor actuate the long range radar and evaluate the target data. The object data from the long range radar are transferred from the front near and long-range radar sensor via the chassis FlexRay (Flex E) to the Intelligent Drive control unit.
This results in the following tasks for the near and the long-range radar sensor:
- Reading in input factors
- Evaluation of input factors
- Actuation of assembly parts
- Transmission of initial parameters
Reading in input factors
The near and long-range radar sensor transmits and receives the following input signals via the chassis FlexRay:
- Radar request
- Diagnosis request
Evaluation of input factors
Input factors are evaluated by the integrated control electronics.
Actuation of assembly parts
The near and long-range radar sensor actuates the near and long-range radar sensor heating (R61/1) over a direct line (pulse width modulated).
Transmission of initial parameters
The near and long-range radar sensor transmits and receives the following input signals via the chassis FlexRay:
- Target data from the radar
- Diagnostic data
Body
The near and long range radar sensor contains control electronics for actuating and evaluating the long range radar.
Properties of the near and long range radar sensor:
- Detection range of the near and long range radar sensor:
- Detection angle near range: a = 90°
- Detection angle long range: a = 30°
- Detection range: up to 30 m for a detection angle of 30°
- Detection range: 30 up to 100 m for a detection angle of 20°
- Detection range: 100 up to 200 m for a detection angle of 12°
- Carrier frequency: 77 GHz (in accordance with the "Pulse Doppler Principle" for independent measurement of distance and speed)
The near and long-range radar sensor must be readjusted using the integrated "Service Adjustment Mode" after replacement (e.g. after an accident repair).
