General
Alongside the basic operating modes such as cooling, temperature control and heating, the climate control is equipped with additional operating modes. These are described below or in separate documents. References to these documents can be found at the end of the document.
Function
Fresh air mode
The fresh/recirculated air flap is open during fresh air mode. This fresh air thus flows through the air conditioner housing into the vehicle interior.
Evaporator drying
To counteract evaporator odors in the vehicle interior and fogging of windows when starting the air conditioning system, an evaporator drying process is required. When the engine is switched off and after a waiting time of approx. one hour, the instrument cluster control system sends the request for evaporator drying to the climate control, control system. This actuates the blower motor at the lowest stage for approx. 30 min.
The supply of air ensures that the residual moisture in the evaporator is removed.
Defrost
All of the flaps are closed during defrosting, with the exception of the following flaps:
- Fresh air/recirculated air flap
- Central air distribution flap or defroster flaps (model/equipment specific)
The maximum air flow thus flows to the windshield and to the front side windows.
The air mixing flaps are adjusted in such a way that the maximum supply of warm air is ensured.
The climate control, control system actuates the blower motor in such a way that optimal defrosting operation is ensured depending on the temperature of the outflowing air. To dry the air, the refrigerant compressor is also switched on. The air is then heated up to the maximum extent.
