General
The central locking system (ZV) controls unlocking and locking the vehicle. Actuators in the vehicle doors unlock or lock the respective locks.
"Global" or "Selective" can be set as the types of unlocking to unlock the vehicle.
The entire vehicle is unlocked in the case of global unlocking. The fuel filler flap and socket flap can be opened.
In the case of selective unlocking, the driver's door is unlocked and the fuel filler flap and socket flap can be opened. All other vehicle doors are unlocked if the vehicle is subsequently unlocked once again.
Function
Unlocking/locking the vehicle
The central locking can be triggered by various control elements or functions.
| Control element/function | Trigger |
|---|---|
| Transmitter key | Press unlock/lock button on transmitter key. The transmitter key must be authorized. |
| Front door interior operation switch | Actuate unlock or lock switch. When locking using the close switch, the fuel filler flap and socket flap always remain unlocked. |
| Automatic locking | Exceeding a defined vehicle speed or waiting time (relocking). The function can be manually activated or deactivated. |
| Emergency opening function after an accident | Triggered by the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). To facilitate access to the vehicle occupants, auxiliary material, and QR code on the fuel filler flap and socket flap. |
| ZV remote door unlocking or ZV remote door locking (vehicles with HERMES) | Triggered by Service Center. In case, for example, the transmitter key has been locked inside the vehicle or been left. |
ZV evaluates the respective incoming request and transmits it to the involved control units. These, in turn, unlock and lock the door locks using the respective ZV motor.
The opening of the fuel filler flap and socket flap is approved or blocked.
The driver's door remains unlocked if the ZV is locked with the transmitter key even though the driver's door is not fully closed. The entire vehicle remains unlocked in vehicles with KEYLESS-GO.
KEYLESS-GO represents a ZV operation variant.
KEYLESS-GO enables the unlocking and locking of the vehicle and the starting and switching off of the engine without active use of the transmitter key. It is sufficient just to carry the transmitter key.
The KEYLESS-GO function can be deactivated in vehicle keys before modification year 2022/1 by double-clicking the "Lock button".
As of modification year 2022/1, the vehicle keys will be converted to 2-hand operation with the KEYLESS-GO function. The KEYLESS-GO function is then deactivated by holding the "Lock button" and double-clicking the "Unlock button" at the same time.
The socket flap, behind which the charging socket for the high-voltage battery is located, is also unlocked/locked by the ZV in electric vehicles.
For vehicles with anti-theft alarm system (EDW): If the driver's door of a locked vehicle is opened with the emergency key element, the EDW triggers an alarm.
Play protection
No additional actions are executed after 40 ZV actions are performed in close succession: The counter value is reduced by one every 7 s.
The ZV can only be actuated again once the count value has dropped below 40.
Additional door lock
Vehicles with increased anti-theft protection.
When the door is locked, the connection of the interior operation lever to the door lock is mechanically decoupled. It is no longer possible to open the door from the inside.
It is thus not possible to break into the vehicle by smashing a window and opening the door from the inside.
Audible and visual verification signals
All ZV actions are indicated to the user by visual and audible verification signals.
The audible verification signals can be activated/deactivated in the multimedia system. It is output by the horns. The horns are actuated once during locking.
No audible verification signals are output if a door, tailgate or fuel filler flap/socket flap are still open during locking.
Visual verification signals are output by the hazard warning light system. One blinking cycle is output when unlocking. Three blinking cycles are output when locking.
No visual locking verification signal is output if a door, tailgate or fuel filler flap/socket flap are still open during locking.
Locking requirements with a running engine
For vehicles before model year 2023, no external locking requests are evaluated with the engine running.
In vehicles as of model year 2023, external locking requests will also be evaluated by the KEYLESS-GO control unit and forwarded to the electronic ignition lock when the engine is running.
