Menu Access To Help Files
Applications should include a "Help" menu item or "Help" button/icon. In addition, the application should include "context sensitive" help throughout the program as well has having keyword text searches. The user should be able to print topics and sections of the help file.
The Help menu should include the ability to access a list of help-based information, including:
- Contents and Index - which should provide linked access to all sections of the software application as well as the ability for the user to provide free-form text to assist in locating "keyword" or "term" specific help.
- About - which should open a dialog box that provides at a minimum version information of the software, version information of the interface hardware and version information of the interface hardware's software.
- How to Contact Technical Support - which should provide the user with pertinent support information such as the web address of the software provider, email contact for reporting problems or for making inquiries, and Phone and or Fax numbers of the manufacturer or support group.
