INI File Versus Registry And XML

During the past several years, with the operating systems specified in this document, the use of the Windows registry has become the de-facto standard way of storing variables, as opposed to the old way of using INI files. With Windows Vista, Microsoft started recommending XML files to replace both INI and registry files. TMC's RP 1210 Update Task Force recognized and discussed these methods; however, with many variables in-place at the moment (knowledge of the end-user, various vendors, OEM, INI file legacy, etc), it was decided to stick with INI files.
