Windows User Access Control (UAC) And RP 1210-Compliancy: Notes
Microsoft's deployment of Windows Vista™ and Windows 7™ has raised concern within TMC's RP 1210 Update Task Force. With Vista/7, Microsoft "virtualized" the "C:\WINDOWS" and "C:\Program Files" directories, calling these "compatibility files." For example, the UNIX/VMS equivalent would be allowing users to install their own programs in SHOME/bin, $HOME/lib, etc. Much of the Task Force's discussion on this has centered on either going to the registry, or to XML files.
