System Characterization Of Electronic Driver Log Systems: Notes
Electronic driver log systems are currently implemented in many ways in terms of technology configuration and the services approach provided. The general components of electronic driver log systems include the:
- Vehicle system,
- Support system and support services, and;
- Data transfer between vehicle and support systems, via wireless network or physical media.
Additionally, system capabilities are provided for enforcement access with inspections and investigations. There are multiple types of services that may be provided with service provider offerings or they may be provided, at least in part, directly by carrier resources. With all the options, there are significant opportunities for variations in how systems are implemented.
The features and many of the options at each level in the basic framework are outlined below. This RP is intended to assist system and services providers, as well as carriers, to better elaborate the system characteristics of their specific systems as they consider the security risk vulnerabilities and then appropriate security controls.
