Speed Sensor Test

Speed Sensor Test

1. Disconnect the 6-pin electrical connector from the Speed Control Amplifier.
2. Connect an ohmmeter between the "BL" lead and the "W/BK" lead (thin "GN" wire on 1.8L vehicles) at the 6-pin connector (C132).
A reading of approximately 200 ohms should be obtained.
- A reading of 0 ohms indicates a shorted coil or a shorted wire in the harness.
- A reading greater than 10,000 ohms indicates an open coil in the sensor or an open wire in the harness.

In either case, repeat the test at the sensor.
- Replace the sensor if the resistance is not approximately 200 ohms.
- Repair the harness if the sensor resistance is satisfactory.

If the ohmmeter records 200 ohms and the speedometer operates properly within needle waver, the speed sensor is probably operating properly.
A speed sensor of known good quality can also be substituted in place of the existing sensor to check for proper operation.
