Powertrain Control Module: Notes
The PCM detects the engine operation, driving conditions and the exhaust gas oxygen content from various switches, sensors and components. The PCM uses this information to control the amount of fuel injected into the engine. The PCM also controls the exhaust gas recirculation, idle speed control and deceleration systems. Refer to the appropriate section for information on these systems.
The PCM controls fuel injection, ignition timing, and other functions in order to maintain the optimum air-fuel ratio. The power transistor amplifies the ignition signal from the PCM and turns the ignition coil primary circuit on and off, inducing the proper high voltage in the secondary circuit. The PCM is located behind the glove compartment.
