Speed Fluctuates

  1. Drive vehicle, leaving speed control disengaged. If speed does not fluctuate, go to next step. If speed fluctuates, service engine as necessary.
  2. Inspect speed control actuator, throttle linkage, and throttle plate for sticking or binding. Inspect all brackets for looseness. If all is okay, go to next step. Service as necessary.
  3. Unplug vehicle speed sensor connector, located at instrument cluster. Measure resistance between sensor terminals. If resistance is not 200-300 ohms, replace sensor. If resistance is as specified, inspect and repair associated wiring as necessary.
