Pressure Testing

NOTE: Do not hold steering wheel against stop or close analyzer valve for more than 15 seconds. Damage to steering system could result.
  1. Increase engine speed to 1000 RPM, turn steering wheel to left or right stop position and read pressure. Pressure reading in stop position should be 1067-1209 psi (75-85 kg/cm2 ).
  2. If pressure is less than specified, slowly close shutoff valve on power steering analyzer and check pressure. If fluid pressure is okay with valve closed, go to next step. If fluid pressure is less than specified, repair or replace power steering pump.
  3. If fluid pressure is as specified, the steering gear is faulty, replace rack and pinion unit. If fluid pressure exceeds specification, replace power steering flow control valve.
  4. Turn engine off. Remove power steering analyzer and reconnect all fittings. Fill and bleed hydraulic system. Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
