Starter Motor No-Load Test

Remove starter motor from vehicle. See STARTER MOTOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Using heavy gauge jumper wires, connect positive battery terminal to starter motor "B" terminal and negative battery terminal to starter motor frame. Connect voltmeter, ammeter, and remote starter switch to starter motor and wiring. See Figure . Engage remote starter switch. Starter motor should turn smoothly. Ammeter should indicate 60-80 amps. If current is higher than specification, replace or overhaul starter motor and recheck starter motor operation.
