Removal and Installation

- Retrieve and record the current APIM software and hardware level. For additional information, Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM) Software Level Check in this service information.
- Remove the floor console rear trim panel by pulling out at the bottom to disengage the clips then rotating the bottom of the panel out to release the upper retaining tabs.
- Remove the 2 screws (Fusion, Milan) or 4 screws (MKZ) and the APIM.
- Disconnect the APIM electrical connector.
- Disconnect the Universal Serial Bus (USB) cable.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
NOTE:
It is necessary to record the current Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM) software and hardware level when a new APIM is being installed to make sure that the new component is the same version as the component being replaced.
NOTE:
For Fusion and Milan, the APIM is removed as an assembly with the bracket.
