Driveshaft Indexing

NOTE: If indexing the driveshaft does not eliminate the vibration, balance the driveshaft. For additional information, refer to Driveshaft Runout and Balancing .
  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING AND LIFTING article.
  2. NOTE: Do not reuse the bolts for the pinion flange. Install new bolts or damage to the vehicle may occur.
    NOTE: Index-mark the pinion flange and driveshaft flange.
  3. Disconnect the rear driveshaft U-joint flange.
    • Discard the 4 bolts.

  5. Rotate the rear pinion flange 90 degrees clockwise.
  6. NOTE: The index mark on the flanges will not align.
  7. Connect the rear driveshaft and install 4 new bolts.
    • Tighten to 112 Nm (83 lb-ft).
  8. Test drive the vehicle.
  9. Repeat the procedure if necessary.
