Description And Operation: Anti-Theft: Notes

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2011 Mercury Milan, 2011 Lincoln MKZ, and 2011 Ford Fusion. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: The Integrated Keyhead Transmitter (IKT) key is a standard Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) key with a Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter incorporated into the keyhead. For PATS, refer to ANTI-THEFT - PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM (PATS) -- FUSION, MILAN & MKZ article or ANTI-THEFT - PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM (PATS) -- FUSION, MILAN & MKZ (HYBRID) article. For RKE, refer to HANDLES, LOCKS, LATCHES & ENTRY SYSTEMS -- FUSION, MILAN & MKZ article.
NOTE: The Smart Junction Box (SJB) is also known as the Generic Electronic Module (GEM).

The perimeter anti-theft system consists of the following:

The perimeter anti-theft feature is controlled by the SJB. The alarm can be armed by using 1 of 3 commands:

The SJB monitors the door ajar switches, the hood switch and the luggage compartment lid disarm switch (all doors, hood and luggage compartment lid must be closed and the key must be out of the ignition lock cylinder). The SJB arms the perimeter alarm after all of the inputs are closed for 20 seconds. From the time each individual input is closed, to the time the perimeter alarm is armed for that particular input (approximately 20 seconds), is the "pre-arm phase". The pre-arm phase is separate for each individual input. If the door lock control switch is pressed to LOCK with the accompanying door open, all of the inputs that are closed (hood, luggage compartment lid) immediately begin their pre-arm phase. After the door that was open is closed, that door begins its pre-arm phase. This causes all other entry points to be armed a few seconds before the last open entry point. The perimeter alarm arms in stages in relation to which input was closed first after the arming command was given.

In the event of an unauthorized entry, the SJB activates the alarm. When the alarm is activated, the SJB intermittently grounds the horn relay, causing the horn to sound in regular intervals, and intermittently powers the turn signals, causing the turn signals to flash in regular intervals.

An unauthorized entry is identified by the SJB when a door, hood or luggage compartment lid ajar switch is detected by the SJB as having been opened and no electronic unlock function (the RKE transmitter unlock button being pressed) was received. If an unauthorized entry occurs at a passenger door, hood or luggage compartment lid, the SJB activates the perimeter alarm.

If an unauthorized entry occurs at the driver door with the SJB detecting the driver door ajar switch as being opened (with no electronic unlock command detected by the SJB), there is a 12-second delay with the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) issuing a chime during this 12-second delay. If a valid, programmed PATS key does not turn the ignition switch to the ON position within 12 seconds of the driver door ajar switch being detected as open, the SJB considers this event to be an unauthorized entry and activates the perimeter alarm. At this time, the message center in the IPC will display "TO STOP ALARM, START VEHICLE".

An authorized entry is identified by the SJB as any of the ajar switches being opened after an electronic unlock command from a programmed RKE transmitter or keyless entry keypad (if equipped) has been detected by the SJB.

The door lock control switches cannot disarm the perimeter alarm.

The perimeter alarm can be disarmed only by:

The perimeter alarm can be deactivated (not disarmed) by pressing the PANIC button on the RKE transmitter (part of the IKT key). This action will not disarm the alarm, but stops the alarm from activation (horn sounding and turn signal lamps flashing). The perimeter alarm continues to be armed.
