SERVICE CAMPAIGN BULLETIN

| GROUP: | Engine Electrical Systems |
SUBJECT
Service Action: Reprogram DME on MINI Cooper with CVT Transmission
MODEL
R50 with W10 and CVT produced up to 10/22/2004
SITUATION
Due to an error in programming procedure in GT1/DIS, DME control modules in MINI Cooper vehicles equipped with CVT transmission may have been incorrectly programmed with the calibration data designed for vehicles with manual transmissions.
As a result, customers may complain of rough engine idle and harsh transmission shifting characteristic.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
This Service Action involves MINI Cooper vehicles with CVT transmission which were produced from the series introduction up to 10/22/2004.
In order to determine if a specific vehicle is affected by this Service Action, it will be necessary to utilize the "Service Menu" of the DCS (Dealer Communication System). Based on the response of the system, either proceed with the corrective action or take no further action.
The Chassis Number Ranges listed below are only for informational purposes and are not to be considered as the only deciding factor.
| Model | Chassis Number Range |

| MINI Cooper CVT | TE10037 - TE19919 |

CORRECTION
Reprogram/recode DME control module with Progman V21.2, or higher.
PROCEDURE
- Determine whether an EMS2K or MS5150 type of DME is installed in the vehicle. They can be distinguished by the color of the housing: black for EMS2K, or silver aluminum on MS5150.
- Open the battery cover in the engine compartment, remove the DME from its bracket and check the color of DME housing ON THE SIDE FACING THE BATTERY.
- Connect an approved battery charger and DK diagnostic head.
- Start new Progman session and select "MINI", then "R50/R52/R53" series.
- Select "Load Software", and then answer "NO" to the query as to whether any of the control modules have been replaced.
- Select DME/DDE from the list of the control modules.
- Select "Programming" menu, and then "Manual entry" from the submenu.
- The manual entry input screen will be displayed. Using a screen key-pad, first enter the part number for the programmed control module and confirm with enter (enter key is located at the lowest right corner of the pad). Then enter the part number for the basic control module and confirm with enter.
Use the following part numbers during DME programming:
EMS2K (black housing) - Programmed DME: 7567668; Basic DME: 7527610.
MS5150 (silver housing) - Programmed DME: 7562634; Basic DME: 7557395.
- The measure plan will be created. Select "Accept" and "Start" to start programming.
LABEL INSTRUCTIONS
This Service Action has been assigned code number 26 After the vehicle has been checked, and corrected if necessary, obtain a label (MD 20-036) and:
- emboss your MINI dealer warranty number in the middle of the label (1);
- punch out code number 26 printed on the label and,
- affix the label to the B pillar as shown.
If the vehicle already has a label from a previous Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix the new label next to the old one. Do not affix one label on top of another one because a number from an underlying label could appear in the punched-out hole of the new label.
