61 11 ... Replacing wiring harness for left door

NOTE: Close side window.

Open convertible top.

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Remove left front seat. Refer to 52 16 000 REMOVING AND INSTALLING LEFT OR RIGHT FRONT SEAT .
Disconnect battery negative lead. Refer to 12 00 ... Instructions for disconnecting and connecting battery .
Remove left speaker cover. Refer to 51 45 130 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING SPEAKER COVER ON LEFT .
Remove left entrance cover strip. Refer to 51 47 000 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING LEFT OR RIGHT ENTRANCE COVER STRIP .
Remove footwell side trim panel from left A-pillar.
Remove sound insulation under footwell side trim panel from A-pillar.
Remove sound insulation from left front door. Refer to 51 48 ... REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING ACOUSTIC INSULATION ON LEFT OR RIGHT FRONT DOOR .

Removal:

Subsequent removal of the wiring harness is described separately from installation.

CAUTION: Do not cut following leads (cf. designation):

Cable lug ground (X1108)
Rear lid release button (X1295)
Cable lug ground (X13230)

Unwrap operational leads from wiring harness.

Repair faulty leads.

Cut through left door wiring harness (1) as illustrated with sufficient excess length.

Detach cut-off wiring harness from left door and remove.

NOTE: Mark positions of cable guides and cable ties to be able to secure the repair wiring harness again identically.

NOTE: The leads remaining in the door after removal of the cut-off wiring harness for mirror adjustment and power windows are not contained in the repair wiring harness.

If necessary, repair faulty leads.

Installation:

Installation of the wiring harness is described separately from removal.

General information:

Notes on assignment of repair connector:

Refer to DIS under Component and signal information / plug, fan and soldered connectors / connectors from X1... / X18993B.

Procedure:

Fit all cut leads of main wiring harness with stop parts.
Pin in leads in accordance with schematic in DIS.
Strip insulation from cable.
Crimp stop parts. Refer to 61 13 ... Crimping Micro Power Quadlock contacts (MPQ) and 61 13 ... Crimping Micro Quadlock System contacts (MQS) .
Connect precrimped leads to corresponding plugs (refer to schematic).
Follow notes and instructions on installing/removing multiple connector systems. Refer to 61 13 ... Opening plug housings and removing contacts of different plug systems .
Replace cable ties that have been cut open.

Stick foam pads (1) as illustrated around repair connector (2).

Secure repair connector (2) using cable ties (3) from repair kit.
