Steering Angle Sensor: Installation

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 37 other vehicles, including the 2006 BMW M3, 2005 BMW M3, 2004 BMW M3, 2004 BMW 330xi, and 2004 BMW 330i. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Slide special tool (32 3 040) into steering angle sensor. The link must rest in an opening in the steering angle sensor. See Fig 1.
  2. Push in steering spindle upper section until stop. Locate special tool (32 3 040) with steering angle sensor. Both lugs (1) of special tool must engage in openings of bearing (2). Push on steering angle sensor. See Fig 2.
  3. Ensure locking element (1) engages in mounting of steering angle sensor. Both locking hooks (2) must be snapped into place. See Fig 3.
  4. Observe guide sleeves. See Fig 4.
  5. When installing sliding piece, screw must fit in both guide sleeves. Screw on nut (1) with Loctite. See Figure. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  6. Replace bushing (1) and crash sleeve (2). See Figure.
  7. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure.
