SUBJECT
Remote Control Key Replacement Procedure
SITUATION
If a replacement remote control key is disabled using ISTA, all Comfort Access features are inoperative, including Comfort Start.
CAUSE
BDC (Body Domain Controller) software error
CORRECTION
Follow the procedure below before replacing a remote control key.
PROCEDURE
- If the remote control key is being replaced for any defect besides being stolen or lost (the key is available), under no circumstances should the old defective key be disabled with the ISTA service function.
- Manually initialize the new key as follows:
- Remove all existing keys from the passenger compartment except for the new key.
- Press the START/STOP button. The Check Control message "No remote key found" appears, and then the request to hold the key at the ring aerial.
- Hold the new remote against the steering column between the ring aerial marks. Press the START/STOP button again. If necessary, press the START/STOP button several times until the ignition can be switched on.
- Perform a function check, i.e., lock/unlock the central locking system. Perform an engine start.
- If the remote control key is lost or stolen, or the key has already been disabled by ISTA and all Comfort Access features are lost, a new BDC with VIN-specific keys must be ordered.
NOTE:
Lost or stolen keys cannot be claimed under warranty.
This issue will be corrected with new software in July 2014. This Service Information bulletin provides advanced information and will be updated when the new software becomes available.
