Ignition Timing: Van
- Start and warm engine to normal operating temperature. Ensure front wheels are in straight-ahead position, transaxle is in Neutral, and all accessories and cooling fan are off.
- Insert paper clip into ignition coil connector. DO NOT unplug connector. See Fig 1
. Connect tachometer lead to paper clip. Start engine and check idle speed. Stop engine.
- Unplug female connector from ignition timing diagnostic connector. Using a jumper wire, ground test terminal of diagnostic connector to fix ignition timing. See Fig 1
. Check base ignition timing.
- If incorrect, loosen distributor nut and adjust base timing. Stop engine and plug female connector. Start engine and check curb ignition timing. At high altitudes, timing may be as high as 15 degrees BTDC. Ignition timing will fluctuate.
