Code 46: EGR System Fault

  1. Start and warm engine to normal operating temperature. Remove and plug vacuum hose from EGR valve nipple. Connect hand vacuum pump to EGR valve nipple. Apply 3.5 in. Hg of vacuum to EGR valve. If idle becomes rough or engine stalls, go to step 3). If idle speed does not change, go to next step.
  2. Check EGR valve and EGR tube for obstructions. Clean or replace valve and/or tube as necessary.
  3. Check EGR vacuum hose for damage and proper routing. If vacuum hose is okay, check EGR solenoid circuit. See CODE 17: EGR SOLENOID CIRCUIT  .
