Purge Control System Check (Purge Flow Check)

  1. Make sure engine is at normal operating temperature. Disconnect purge hose from EVAP canister. Connect Purge Flow Indicator (MB995061) between canister and purge hose.
  2. Place automatic transmission in Park, or manual transmission in Neutral. Ensure lights, cooling fan and accessories are off. Run engine at idle for more than 4 minutes. While suddenly racing engine several times, check purge flow volume. Purge flow volume should be 2.5 SCFH (20 cm3 /sec) or more. If purge flow is less than specified, retest with vacuum hose disconnected from canister. If purge flow is now as specified, replace canister. If purge flow is still less than specified, check purge solenoid, vacuum port and vacuum hose for clogging.
