BATTERY DISCHARGE DURING VEHICLE STORAGE  - All models.

All vehicles in dealer storage must be monitored for proper battery condition and state of charge. A new vehicle that will not start because of a discharged battery raises a red flag to a potential customer and could potentially create problems with other vehicle systems. Problems with other systems may not be realized immediately and may show up after vehicle delivery. The result is that the customer may provide low scores on IQS and CSI surveys. Positive results in these surveys are critical to the future expansion of the dealer and MMNA's customer base. Details on maintaining proper battery state of charge can be found on the MDL at: "service -> service and parts mgt -> VIMS Information.  " Please refer to Warranty Bulletin WB-2005-008 for additional information.

√ AYC/ACD HYDRAULIC PUMP BLEEDING PROCEDURE  - 2008-15 Lancer Evolution, 2009-15 Lancer Ralliart.

In case of difficulty bleeding the AYC/ACD system on Lancer Evolution and Ralliart vehicles, the applicable Mitsubishi service manual correctly describes the bleeding procedure necessary when replacing the AYC/ACD hydraulic pump or related components. However, if the system is not properly bled, unusually loud noises will be heard when the pump operates.

Following are four tips to help you successfully complete the bleeding procedure:

  1. A heavy click/clunk noise can be heard after starting the vehicle and depressing the brake pedal (approximately 2 seconds after vehicle start up), or while the brake pedal is depressed and the vehicle is then started. The clunk is due to air being trapped in the AYC/ACD system. Continue bleeding the system until the noise is eliminated.
  2. ATF is not filling the area below the filter in the AYC/ACD reservoir. If the bottom 1/3 of the reservoir is not filled with fluid (see photo and diagram below) after pouring ATF into the AYC/ACD reservoir, squeeze the large inlet hose several times. This will help displace the trapped air and fill the lower 1/3 of the reservoir prior to bleeding the system. If trapped air is not removed, it may be drawn into the hydraulic system during bleeding.
NOTE: It is recommended that you remove the inner trunk panel to view this area of the reservoir.

  3. If you encounter a negative response message from MUT3 SE while attempting to start the bleeding procedure for the AYC/ACD pump, check the steering wheel position. The steering wheel must be at the straight ahead position for the activation procedure to begin.
    G11720479
  4. After starting the bleeding procedure following service manual directions, keep the reservoir fluid full to prevent air from being drawn into the AYC/ACD system.

For additional information, refer to the procedure in the applicable service manual.

IMPROPER DOOR GLASS FUNCTION  - 2013-15 Outlander Sport/RVR.

In some vehicles, the door glass may chatter or bind during operation, possibly causing the regulator and/or the glass attaching clips to be damaged. TSB-16-42A-001 instructs dealers to inspect the door glass free play between the front and rear run channels. If excessive free play exists, the glass may not operate properly while moving up and down. Please follow the TSB to confirm proper window sash adjustment and glass free play before completing a repair in this area.

DRIP MOLDING LOOSE OR FALLING OFF  - 2017-18 Outlander.

Before replacing any drip moldings for complaints of drip moldings being loose, please take photos of the loose drip molding, the roof area, and the drip molding clip. Post the photos in the PRC.

G11720480
G11720481

For those cases where the drip molding is missing altogether, proceed with taking photos of the roof area and drip molding clip(s) and post the photos in the PRC.

SMARTPHONE LINK DISPLAY AUDIO SYSTEM (SDA, 7" SCREEN) WITH APPLE CARPLAY™ AND ANDROID AUTO INCORRECT VOICE COMMANDS  - 2017-18 Outlander, 2018 Outlander Sport/RVR.

After pressing and releasing the steering wheel SPEECH button to initiate voice command through the Smartphone Link Display Audio (SDA) system (with 7-inch touchscreen), saying an incorrect voice command will generate an SDA system response of "the volume is too loud, please try again." This phenomenon is frequently noticed on the initial screen that comes up after initiating voice command, as shown in the following photo. The "Seek Up" command (radio station change) should only be used when in FM/AM mode, and "Track Up" only when in Bluetooth® audio/USB iPod® mode. Saying a command that is not listed in the SDA screen can also generate the same system response. Always refer to pages 88-90 of the Smartphone Link Display Audio owner's manual for the correct voice command list.

√ "THIS FUNCTION IS NOT SUPPORTED" MESSAGE ON SDA (6.5" SCREEN)  - 2017 Lancer (Limited Edition), Mirage, Mirage G4, Outlander Sport/RVR (Limited Edition).

NOTE: This article is being reprinted to add additional affected models equipped with this audio system.

The Smartphone Link Display Audio (SDA) system (with 6.5-inch touchscreen and CD player) on the models listed above may display the message "This function is not supported" when a customer pushes the voice recognition button on the steering wheel controls.

G11720485

This can happen whether or not a phone is paired to the SDA (without a cable), as shown in the two following examples.

G11720486
G11720487

Dealers should explain that this system does NOT  have the voice command feature, even when a phone is paired. To initiate a call, the user must press the phone icon on the display screen. When a paired phone is connected to the SDA via a cable, and Apple™ Carplay or Android Auto is operating, the voice recognition button on the steering wheel will enable voice recognition, but ONLY through the phone's own voice command function (provided the phone is equipped with that feature).

Group 60 - Recalls

ATIN-17-SR-004-A: LANCER PASSENGER SIDE FRONTAL AIR BAG INFLATOR SAFETY RECALL CAMPAIGN  - 2004 Lancer Sportback, 2004-06 Lancer, Lancer Evolution.

ATIN-17-SR-004-A was released recently and states:

"A recall campaign, SR-17-004, superseding SR-14-012 will be released tomorrow, for the front passenger air bag inflator equipped on certain 2004 - 2006 Lancer vehicles built August 4, 2003 - August 28, 2006; 2004 Lancer Sportback vehicles built August 4, 2003 - January 23, 2004; and 2004 -2006 Lancer Evolution vehicles built February 11, 2004 - September 1, 2006. All unrepaired vehicles from SR-14-012 have been moved to SR-17-004. A new air bag inflator (part # 7030A950) is used in SR-17-004. Effective immediately, do not install part # 7030A696 on any vehicle. If campaign C1414A was performed on any vehicle prior to receipt of this notice, please enter the claim in the Warranty system by October 10, 2017 to be appropriately reimbursed. Repairs made after October 5, 2017 using part # 7030A696 will not be eligible for reimbursement.  The Recall Campaign Bulletin, SR-17-004, outlining the repair procedure will be available tomorrow on MEDIC and MDL.

Vehicles equipped with a front passenger Takata air bag inflator containing ammonium nitrate, are at risk of inflator rupture during a collision. An inflator rupture may cause metal fragments to pass through the air bag and into the vehicle interior at high speed, which may result in injury or death to vehicle occupants.

Notification letters will be sent to owners of affected vehicles on October 12, 2017, requesting they contact their local Authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealership to schedule an appointment to have this recall performed. A sample copy of the owner notification letter is included for your reference.

Some Authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealers have been force allocated new inflator stock using a formula based on the proximity and percentage of applicable registered VINs by ZIP code. Parts shipments were processed via the 'R' order type and started shipping along with your scheduled stock order beginning 10/04/2017. Dealers may place additional orders via the MDL. Please refer to Parts Bulletin LN-IF-01-17 for additional information.

Dealers must review the Warranty Superscreen to confirm if any vehicles in their new or used vehicle inventories are affected, and conduct this campaign prior to delivering them. When checking for applicability of this campaign (C1704A), please check for and complete any other open campaigns. Always obtain the customer's approval before completing a campaign on a customer owned vehicle.

The replaced inflator must be returned to Takata directly.  Dealers must  follow the return shipping procedure outlined in SR-17-004. Please note that the air bag inflator return process for this campaign may be different from other Takata air bag inflator campaigns (e.g., SR-15-007 and SR-16-002).

Completion of this recall is an extremely important initiative for MMNA. To support completion of this recall, owners will be informed that a rental/loaner vehicle will be available to them during completion of this recall. Please prioritize this repair in your shop scheduling. To minimize inconveniences for your customers, please ensure every eligible customer is provided with a rental car upon request."

IMPORTANT: Affected new or used inventory vehicles must be repaired before the vehicle is sold/delivered. Dealers must check their inventory vehicles' VINs on the Warranty Superscreen to verify whether the vehicle is involved in this recall campaign. It is a violation of Federal law for a dealer to sell/deliver a new motor vehicle or any new or used item of motor vehicle equipment (including a tire) covered by the notification under a sale or lease until the defect or noncompliance is remedied.

ATIN-17-SR-005-A: ELECTRICAL POWER CONTROL RELAY SAFETY RECALL CAMPAIGN  - Certain 2015-16 Lancer, 2015 Lancer Evolution, 2015-17 Outlander, 2015-16 Outlander Sport/RVR.

ATIN-17-SR-005-A was released recently and states:

"A safety recall campaign will be conducted for electrical power control relays in certain 2015 - 2017 Outlander built from December 5, 2014 to August 24, 2016; 2015 - 2016 Lancer built from December 5, 2014 to March 3, 2016; 2015 Lancer Evolution built from December 5, 2014 to December 24, 2015; 2015 - 2016 Outlander Sport built from October 15, 2014 to July 8, 2016.

Do not sell or deliver any affected vehicles in your new vehicle inventory until this recall has been performed.  Please check the Most Recent: Open Campaign List e-report to identify affected vehicles in your new vehicle inventory.

Due to an inappropriate maintenance procedure used on a welding machine at a relay supplier, welding of components within the relay may have been performed incorrectly resulting in improper electrical conduction. As a result, one of the following conditions may occur depending on which system is using the defective relay:

  • If the relay for the engine control unit fails, the engine will stall while driving and cannot be restarted. An engine stall while driving can increase the risk of an accident.
  • If the relay for the engine valve lift control fails, the engine warning lamp will illuminate and fail-safe mode will be activated, limiting available engine power.
  • If the relay for the radiator fan fails, the engine coolant temperature will rise, the coolant temperature warning lamp will illuminate, and the engine may overheat.

Recall Campaign Bulletin SR-17-005, outlining the repair procedure, will be made available today on MDL and MEL. The specific relay to be replaced are model and engine specific.  Prior to starting repairs, it is important that you first check the Warranty Superscreen for the applicable Campaign Operation Numbers. Cross reference the Campaign Operation Numbers with the chart in the RELAY REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE section in SR-17-005 to determine the correct relay(s) to replace.

Some dealers will be force allocated Electrical Power Control Relays stock using a formula based on the proximity and percentage of applicable registered VINs by ZIP code. Parts shipments are processed via the 'R' order type and started shipping along with your scheduled stock order beginning 10/18/2017. Please refer to Parts Bulletin ER-LO-01-17 for additional information.

Customer letters are scheduled to begin mailing on October 24, 2017. Copies of the customer letters are attached for your reference.

Dealers must review the Warranty Superscreen to confirm if any vehicles in their new or used vehicle inventories are affected, and conduct this campaign prior to delivering them.  When checking for applicability of this campaign (C1705A, C1705B, or C1705C), please check for any other open campaigns. Some affected vehicles may have SR-16-005, SR-16-006, SR-16-011, and/or SR-17-002 recalls still open. Please ensure you have adequate inventory of affected parts to complete all open recalls.  Always obtain the customer's approval before completing a campaign on a customer owned vehicle.
