High Altitude COMPENSATOR System
Used on California models only, the high altitude compensator system adjusts the air/fuel mixture to reduce emissions at both high and low altitudes. The altitude compensator is mounted within the air cleanser housing and is controlled by a manually set lever. Lever must be set on "H" for high altitude driving. This setting opens an additional air passage to the carburetor, allowing engine to run leaner. The "L" setting is used for low altitude driving.
