Idle COMPENSATOR System
The idle compensator system reduces emissions by leaning out air/fuel mixture during high idle temperatures. The idle compensator is a thermostatic valve located in air cleaner housing. The valve allows fresh air to flow directly from the air cleaner to the intake manifold under high idle temperatures. Components include bimetallic strip(s), thermostatic valve, and high altitude compensator (California only). Two bimetallic strips are used to cover a wide range of underhood temperatures.
