Fuel Pump System Test

  1. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and fuel pump harness connector Orange wire. See Fig 1 . Fuel pump and connector are located in trunk. Battery voltage should be present for 5 seconds after ignition is turned on. If voltage is as specified, go to step 3). If voltage is not as specified, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Check Green fusible link located in fusible link holder next to battery. Check harness continuity between battery positive terminal and fuel pump relay (White/Black wire). Check harness continuity between fuel pump relay and fuel pump (Orange wire). Check harness continuity between fuel pump relay and ECM harness connector terminal No. 18 (Black/Pink wire). Continuity should exist in all checks. If continuity does not exist, repair appropriate harness or connector. If continuity exists, check fuel pump relay. See RELAYS  under RELAYS & SOLENOIDS.
  3. Turn ignition off. Loosen and retighten ground screws. Start engine. Measure voltage between ground and fuel pump harness connector terminal White wire. Battery voltage should be present for 30 seconds after starting engine. After 30 seconds, voltage should be 3-6 volts with engine idling. If voltage is as specified, system is functioning properly. If voltage is not as specified, go to next step.
  4. Turn ignition off. Check harness continuity between fuel pump and fuel pump control module (White wire). Fuel pump control module is located behind trim panel next to left rear seat. Check harness continuity between ECM harness connector terminal No. 104 (Black/Pink wire) and fuel pump control module. Continuity should exist in all checks. If continuity does not exist, repair appropriate harness or connector. If continuity exists, check fuel pump. See FUEL PUMP  .
