DTC Confirmation Test (Using Generic Scan Tool)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Infiniti Q45. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Use this procedure to check the overall function of the EVAP very small leak function. During this check, a 1st trip DTC might not be confirmed.
CAUTION: Never use compressed air. Doing so may damage the EVAP system. Do not start engine. Do not exceed 0.6 psi (4.12 kPa).
  1. Attach the EVAP service port adapter securely to the EVAP service port. See Figure . Connect a pressure pump and a hose. Also connect a vacuum gauge via 3-way connector and a hose.
  2. Turn ignition on. Connect scan tool and select MODE 8. Using MODE 8, control the EVAP canister vent control valve (close) and vacuum cut valve by-pass valve (open).
  3. Apply pressure and ensure the following conditions are satisfied:
    • Pressure to be applied: 0.79 in. Hg (2.7 kPa).
    • Time to wait after the pressure drawn in to the EVAP system and the pressure to be dropped: 60 seconds and the pressure should not drop more than 0.12 in. Hg (0.4 kPa).
  4. If NG is displayed, go to DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE  . If OK is displayed, go to next step.
  5. Disconnect scan tool. Start engine and warm to normal operating temperature. Turn ignition off and wait at least 10 seconds. Restart engine and let it idle for 90 seconds. Keep engine speed at 2000 RPM for 30 seconds. Turn ignition off.
