Current Codes Using AIR Bag Warning Light

- Turn ignition off, then on. System is now in USER mode.
- If AIR BAG warning light comes on for about 7 seconds and goes off, system is okay (no fault codes are stored in memory).
- If AIR BAG warning light does not come on, go to AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT DOES NOT COME ON under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS.
- If light comes on and stays on, air bag has deployed or part of diagnosis sensor unit is defective. Go to AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT STAYS ON under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS.
- If AIR BAG warning light comes on for about 7 seconds and flashes on and off, fault codes are stored in memory. Go to next step.
NOTE: System will not enter DIAGNOSIS mode if no malfunction is detected in USER mode. - To enter self-diagnostics and retrieve fault codes, turn ignition on. After AIR BAG warning light is on for 7 seconds, turn ignition switch off within one second. Wait more than 3 seconds. Repeat procedure 2 additional times. Turn ignition on. System is now in DIAGNOSIS mode.
- In DIAGNOSIS mode:
- If AIR BAG warning light flashes slowly and continuously (3 seconds ON, 2 seconds OFF), a fault occurred but is no longer present (intermittent fault).
- If AIR BAG warning light flashes a marker sequence (7 seconds ON, 2 seconds OFF, 3 seconds ON, 2 seconds OFF) and then flashes quickly, record quick flashes. Quick flashes represent driver, passenger or seat belt pretensioner fault codes. For example, 2 quick flashes indicate driver"s air bag module Fault Code 2. Go to FAULT CODES (DRIVER-SIDE OR PASSENGER-SIDE) .
- If AIR BAG warning light flashes a marker sequence (7 seconds ON, 2 seconds OFF, 1.5 seconds ON, 0.5 second OFF, 1.5 seconds ON, 2 seconds OFF) and then flashes quickly, record quick flashes. Quick flashes represent side air bag or satellite sensor codes. For example, 2 quick flashes indicate driver"s side air bag module Fault Code 2. Go to FAULT CODES (SIDE) .
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect both battery cables. Repair system. After repairing air bag system, connect battery cables, open driver-side door and turn ignition on.
- If AIR BAG warning light flashes a marker sequence and does not begin a series of quick flashes, no malfunction is detected and no further repair is required. Turn ignition off and reset from DIAGNOSIS mode to USER mode.
- If AIR BAG warning light flashes a marker sequence and begins a series of quick flashes, system has a malfunction and must be repaired. Quick flashes represent fault codes. Go to step 3 .
