  1. Turn ignition off, then on. System is now in USER mode.
    • If AIR BAG warning light comes on for about 7 seconds and goes off, system is okay (no fault codes are stored in memory).
    • If AIR BAG warning light does not come on, go to AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT DOES NOT COME ON  under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS.
    • If light comes on and stays on, air bag has deployed or part of diagnosis sensor unit is defective. Go to AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT STAYS ON  under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS.
    • If AIR BAG warning light comes on for about 7 seconds and flashes on and off, fault codes are stored in memory. Go to next step.
NOTE: System will not enter DIAGNOSIS mode if no malfunction is detected in USER mode.
  2. To enter self-diagnostics and retrieve fault codes, turn ignition on. After AIR BAG warning light is on for 7 seconds, turn ignition switch off within one second. Wait more than 3 seconds. Repeat procedure 2 additional times. Turn ignition on. System is now in DIAGNOSIS mode.
  3. In DIAGNOSIS mode:
    • If AIR BAG warning light flashes slowly and continuously (3 seconds ON, 2 seconds OFF), a fault occurred but is no longer present (intermittent fault).
    • If AIR BAG warning light flashes a marker sequence (7 seconds ON, 2 seconds OFF, 3 seconds ON, 2 seconds OFF) and then flashes quickly, record quick flashes. Quick flashes represent driver, passenger or seat belt pretensioner fault codes. For example, 2 quick flashes indicate driver"s air bag module Fault Code 2. Go to FAULT CODES (DRIVER-SIDE OR PASSENGER-SIDE)  .
    • If AIR BAG warning light flashes a marker sequence (7 seconds ON, 2 seconds OFF, 1.5 seconds ON, 0.5 second OFF, 1.5 seconds ON, 2 seconds OFF) and then flashes quickly, record quick flashes. Quick flashes represent side air bag or satellite sensor codes. For example, 2 quick flashes indicate driver"s side air bag module Fault Code 2. Go to FAULT CODES (SIDE)  .
  4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect both battery cables. Repair system. After repairing air bag system, connect battery cables, open driver-side door and turn ignition on.
  5. If AIR BAG warning light flashes a marker sequence and does not begin a series of quick flashes, no malfunction is detected and no further repair is required. Turn ignition off and reset from DIAGNOSIS mode to USER mode.
  6. If AIR BAG warning light flashes a marker sequence and begins a series of quick flashes, system has a malfunction and must be repaired. Quick flashes represent fault codes. Go to step  3 .
