Side Impact AIR Bag Module

  1. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM  . Remove side impact air bag module from seat back. Place air bag module on clean, dry work bench, with deployment side of bag facing upward.
  2. Drill two 0.256" (6.5 mm) diameter holes in deployment bracket. See Fig 1 . Align side air bag module mounting studs with drilled holes in deployment bracket. Attach side air bag module to deployment bracket using 6 mm nuts. Mount side impact air bag module and bracket in vise. Attach deployment tool to air bag module.
  3. Position a fully charged 12-volt battery at least 16 ft. (5 m) from deployment area. Connect Air Bag Deployment Tool (J38381) to driver-side air bag module connector. Connect Red deployment tool clip to positive battery terminal and Black deployment tool clip to negative battery terminal.
  4. Ensure deployment tool power lamp glows Green. If deployment tool power lamp glows Red, reverse battery connections and recheck lamp. Ensure no one is within 16 ft. (5 m) of air bag module. Press deployment tool button to deploy air bag.
