Removal & Installation: Notes

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1988 Pontiac Bonneville. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Depressurize brake system. Unplug all electrical connectors from hydraulic unit. Remove pump bolt. Move hydraulic unit aside to gain access to brake pipes. Disconnect brake lines. DO NOT allow brake fluid to come in contact with any electrical connectors.
  2. From inside passenger compartment, disconnect hydraulic booster push rod from brake pedal. Push dust boot forward past hex on push rod. Separate push rod halves by unthreading the 2 pieces. Remove 2 bolts attaching unit to push rod bracket.
  3. Remove unit. Front half of push rod will remain in hydraulic unit. See Figure . To install, reverse removal procedure. Bleed brake system after installation of hydraulic unit. See:
