Light Sequence Determination

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1988 Pontiac Bonneville. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. The second step in diagnosis of any anti-lock brake system condition is determination of the warning light behavior. The system uses 2 warning lights, the Red "BRAKE" warning light and an Amber "ANTI-LOCK" light.
  2. By observing when these lights come on, specific components and sub-systems of the brake system may be isolated as likely causes of a system malfunction.
  3. Each light sequence illustration is divided into 7 areas which represent vehicle status, with behavior of "BRAKE" and "ANTI-LOCK" lights represented in horizontal rows below vehicle status headers. See Fig 1 .
  4. "BRAKE" and "ANTI-LOCK" light status is indicated by shaded areas in horizontal rows below each vehicle status header. A vehicle status block which is not entirely shaded means that light is on only for part of the test period.
