Code E046, Power Steering Pressure Switch Circuit: Notes

To set a Code E046, the following conditions must be met:

Closed power steering switch. EI78 indicates LO (low voltage potential)
Vehicle speed is greater than 40 MPH
Both conditions existing for a time greater than 25 seconds

NOTE: Test numbers refer to test numbers on diagnostic chart.

Test Number 1) Tests the power steering pressure switch for proper operation by using the self-diagnostic system. LO should be displayed when high power steering pressure loads are created.

Test Number 2) This step determines whether the fault is in the switch or the circuit. A jumpered switch connector should normally indicate HI if the circuit is complete. If so, the power steering pressure switch or connection is faulty.

Test Number 3) If display switches to HI when circuit No. 495 is grounded, the fault is an open in circuit No. 450.
